Noida Metro Expansion

The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has greenlit an ambitious project to expand its network to Noida Extension, commonly known as Greater Noida West. This development aims to address the transportation needs of the region’s burgeoning population, providing a much-awaited solution for the lack of government-aided public transport.

Understanding the Expansion Project:

The approved detailed project report focuses on extending the Aqua Line corridor from Noida Sector-51 station to Knowledge Park V in Greater Noida. The route spans 17.43 km and proposes 11 strategically located stations.

Detailed Project Report (DPR) Overview:

Presented before the NMRC’s Board, the DPR outlines a cost estimate of Rs 2991.60 crore for the expansion. The plan emphasizes the importance of connecting the existing Aqua Line with the Delhi Metro’s Blue Line at Sector-61 station.

Proposed Corridor and Stations:

The proposed corridor includes stations at Noida Sector-61, Sector-70, Sector-122, Sector-123, Greater Noida Sector-4, Ecotech 4, Greater Noida Sector 2, 3, 10, 12, and Greater Noida Knowledge Park-V. This comprehensive coverage aims to enhance connectivity for residents and reduce road traffic congestion.

Significance of the Interchange Station:

The Noida Sector-61 station will serve as a crucial interchange station, seamlessly connecting the NMRC’s Aqua Line with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s Blue Line. This integration promises faster and direct connectivity for commuters between Noida and Delhi.

Benefits for Commuters:

The project’s primary goal is to benefit commuters in Noida, Greater Noida West, and Greater Noida. The expansion will utilize Vikas Marg and Noida-Greater Noida Link Road, offering improved transportation options and contributing to road traffic decongestion.

Approval Process and Next Steps:

NMRC Managing Director Lokesh M highlighted that the DPR’s approval by the NMRC Board is a crucial step. The next phase involves processing the report for approval by the governments of Uttar Pradesh and India.

Future Expansion Plans:

In addition to the Greater Noida West expansion, the NMRC has plans for two more corridors – one between Botanical Garden Metro Station and Noida Sector-142, and another extending from NMCR’s Depot Station to Bodaki in Greater Noida. These projects showcase the commitment to further enhancing metro connectivity in the region.

Conclusion:

The Noida Metro’s expansion project signifies a significant stride towards addressing the long-standing demand for improved public transport in Greater Noida West. As the approval process progresses, residents can look forward to enhanced connectivity, reduced commute times, and an overall improvement in the region’s transportation infrastructure.
