Sitharaman’s Budget Speech: During her budget speech, Minister Sitharaman expressed the government’s dedication to promoting the Lakhpati Didi Scheme, citing its transformative impact on the lives of 9 crore women. She emphasized the scheme’s role in fostering self-reliance and announced the acceleration of Anganwadi programs. Sitharaman stated, “There has been a transformation in the lives of 9 crore women. Self-reliance has come through Lakhpati Didi. The decision has been made to increase it from 2 crores to 3 crores.”

What is the Lakhpati Didi Scheme? The Lakhpati Didi Scheme, introduced by the Modi government, aims to economically empower women across the nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi first mentioned this groundbreaking initiative during his speech at the Red Fort on August 15, 2023. The scheme focuses on providing technical training to women, enabling them to earn an annual income exceeding ₹1 lakh.

Key Objectives: The Lakhpati Didi Scheme aligns with the government’s vision to uplift the economic status of women. PM Modi, in his address, highlighted the 10 crore women associated with self-help groups in the country. The scheme strategically connects these women to various opportunities, including the provision of drones for self-help groups, coupled with training for operation and maintenance. Skill Development for Empowerment: Primarily a skill development program, Lakhpati Didi teaches women tasks that enhance their employability, empowering them to earn a minimum of ₹1 lakh annually while working from home.
