In the last day, India saw a concerning jump with 841 new Covid-19 cases, marking the highest in 227 days. Health ministry data on Sunday revealed 4,309 active cases. Sadly, three lives were lost in the past 24 hours, reported from Kerala, Karnataka, and Bihar. India experienced a relatively low count until December 5, but a surge occurred due to a new variant and cold weather conditions. This spike follows a previous high of 865 cases recorded on May 19.

Until December 5, we were seeing only a few cases each day, mostly in the tens. But now, the numbers are climbing again. This is happening because of a new variant of the virus and the cold weather making things tougher.

3 Lives Lost to Covid in a Day
In the past 24 hours, sad news arrived as three more people lost their lives to Covid. The latest update from the ministry on Sunday revealed one fatality each from Kerala, Karnataka, and Bihar.

Omicron Variant Update in Maharashtra

On Saturday, Maharashtra reported 172 new COVID-19 cases with no fatalities, according to the health department. This marks an increasing trend, with 620 cases recorded from December 24 to 30, compared to just 103 in the previous week. Notably, Maharashtra has identified 10 cases of the JN.1 sub-variant of Omicron as of Saturday.
